A Permeability Prediction for Non– Crimp Fabrics
نویسندگان
چکیده
A model is proposed to analyse the variation in the permeability of Non– Crimp Fabrics, originating from variations in the internal structure of the material. A geometrical description of the fabric based on the distortion induced by the stitch threads piercing through the fabric is employed. The distortions form channels which are mutually connected. It is assumed that these channels dominate the permeability of the fabric. A network of flow channels is subsequently defined, in which the variations, measured in the dimensions of the distortions, is explicitly accounted for. The variations in the internal structure of the fabric affect the averaged permeability significantly. Moreover, a network rather that a single unit cell is required to predict the averaged permeability and its variation properly. Finally, the spatial distribution of the randomly generated channel dimensions affects the permeability significantly.

A Permeability Prediction for (un)sheared Non-crimp Fabrics
A permeability prediction model for relaxed and sheared Non-Crimp Fabrics is proposed. The model is based on geometrical features of the fabric. The stitches penetrating the uni-directional plies of the NCF induce distortions of the fibres in the plane of the fabric. These Stitch Yarn induced fibre Distortions (SYD) form flow channels, which determine the permeability of the NCF. The channels a...
متن کاملComputation of Permeability of Textile with Experimental Validation for Monofilament and Non Crimp Fabrics
For the manufacturing of composite materials with textile reinforcement, the permeability of the textile is a key characteristic. Using the law of Darcy, permeability can be derived from a numerical simulation of the fluid flow, i.e. by solving the Navier-Stokes or Brinkman equations. In this paper we present the results of simulations with two different flow solvers: a finite difference Navier...

For mass production of structural composites, use of different textile patterns, custom preforming, room temperature cure high performance polymers and simplistic manufacturing approaches are desired. Woven fabrics are widely used for infusion processes owing to their high permeability but their localised mechanical performance is affected due to inherent associated crimps. The current investig...
متن کاملDrape simulation of non-crimp fabrics
The draping process of non-crimp fabrics (NCF) on a doubly curved mould determines the fibre distribution and hence the processing and performance of the NCF product. A composite Finite Element (FE) model is developed to simulate the draping process of NCFs on arbitrary geometries. Tool-part interaction is taken into account. Problem regions with possible fibre buckling can be indicated and the...
متن کاملA Study on Frictional Characteristics of Woven Fabrics
We have examined the fabric-to-metal surface and fabric-to-fabric frictional characteristics (in both warp and weft directions) of a series of fabrics containing 100% polyester, 100% viscose, and P/C & P/V blends with different blend proportions. It has been observed that the normal load and the frictional force follow a logarithmic relationship for all the fabrics. The nature of fabric frictio...
